Dear colleagues,

SJSU Enrollment Services recently posted information regarding the policies, procedures and processes for the Fall 2011 undergraduate application cycle.
I would like to call your attention to two significant changes for the upcoming Fall 2011 admission cycle, which will open for applications from October 1 through November 30, 2010:
- All SJSU majors are impacted for undergraduate applicants, thus all CSU-eligible applicants will be ranked and offered admission according to the capacity within each individual major. As was the case for Fall 2010, local CSU-eligible applicants will be guaranteed admission, though not necessarily in the desired major.
- On-campus housing will be required for all admitted frosh who will graduate from a high school located in a city outside of a 30-mile radius of SJSU. A protocol for managing requests for exemptions to the on-campus housing requirement is being developed by University Housing Services in conjunction with Enrollment Services.

Unchanged for Fall 2011
- Restrictions on class levels. SJSU accepts applications from domestic and international applicants who are first-time college freshmen and upper division transfers. No lower-division transfers or second baccalaureate applications are permitted. Under impaction, this is a systemwide restriction.

-Determination of “Local” and “Non-Local” for admission and impaction. The determination for “local” and “non-local” for admission purposes is unchanged from last year. For frosh, a local student is a student who graduates from a high school within Santa Clara County. For upper division transfers, a local student is a student who has earned the majority of his or her units from a college located in either Santa Clara or Santa Cruz County. Note that the requirement for housing follows different geographic boundaries than the determination of “local” and “non- local” for admission and impaction purposes. Please consult the Fall 2011 Admission 101 publication for more details.

- Strict adherence to SJSU deadlines. Students must monitor their MySJSU accounts at least weekly in order to respond to requests for information, documents and other important deadlines. Failure to meet deadlines is the most common reason why students have their applications withdrawn.

- Timelines for decisions. Because of campus-wide impaction, the application review process for the frosh and transfer application pools is lengthy. We expect admission letters will begin to go out on Friday, February 25, 2011.

- Communication to students via MySJSU. Applicants are advised that their first and best place to check the status of their application and any pertinent messages or to-do items is on their MySJSU account. Applicants should contact admissions@sjsu.edu with questions or concerns about their application or associated deadlines.
Your continued help with communicating this important information to students, families, faculty and staff is very much appreciated.
