March 10, 2010
Dear High School and Community College Colleagues,
California State University, Long Beach (CSULB) is committed to student success. As your partner in helping your students meet their educational goals, we want to continue to provide you with the latest information that will facilitate their access and successful transition to CSULB this coming fall and beyond.
CSULB received an unprecedented number of applications for Fall 2010:
• Over 71,000 applications received.
• 47,683 from first-time-freshmen. (an increase of 4.3%)
• 21,973 from transfers. (an increase of 48.6%)
Significant enrollment demand is expected in 2010-2011 because CSULB is:
• A low cost, high quality institution.
• Experiencing increased student continuation rates and unit loads.
• Within driving distance for many students.
For Fall 2010-2011 admission, CSULB will be:
• Impacted for freshmen, using significantly higher criteria for applicants from non-local high schools.
• Impacted for upper-division transfers, using significantly higher criteria for applicants from community colleges in all majors except for transfers to non-impacted majors from Long Beach City and colleges of the Coast Community College District.
• Impacted for 12 new majors at the transfer level. A complete list of impacted majors can be found at: http://www.csulb.edu/depts/enrollment/admissions/impacted_major.html
• CSULB's preferred term of entrance for undergraduates is Fall. It is unknown at this time if CSULB will offer access for spring transfers. If so, CSULB will notify community colleges as soon as the information becomes available.
