Subject: RE: FAFSA Dependency Override Request

If a student is seeking a Dependency Override to exclude parent information from his or her FAFSA, the student must submit the attached Dependency Override Request. A Dependency Override will be approved only if the student can document an extreme situation that is detrimental to the student's physical or emotional well-being.

(Note: according to federal regulations, the fact that parents are not helping the student is not a sufficient reason to get an override.)

The student will need to submit three items: a personal statement about his or her situation and two supporting letters from people who are familiar with his or her situation. At least one of the supporting letters must be from someone who knows the student in a professional capacity (teacher, principal, counselor, social worker, minister, etc.). CSUEB will use this information to determine whether the student meets the federal criteria for a Dependency Override.
