TRANSFER FACTS:

  • Cal Maritime accepts both lower and upper division transfer students
  • 44% of the entering class are transfer students
  • An Associate’s Degree is not required for transferring.
  • Several majors require a four-year commitment of study even if you have completed a Bachelor’s Degree and/or have many transfer units. This is due to the specialized nature of coursework at Cal Maritime.

Admission & Registration Status Prior to Receipt of ALL Official Transcripts(Page 6):
Will admit conditionally based on official Fall semester transcript and Spring semester work-in progress. Registration hold is placed for official Spring semester transcript(s) until received. No Summer semester work for Fall admission
Completion Dates for Upper Division Transfers in Communication in the English Language & Quantitative Reasoning(Page 10):
- Fall 2012-complete by end of spring 2012.
- Spring 2013-Not open for spring admission.
Grades in Repeated Courses Taken From Different Colleges for Transfer(Page 9):
Will accept the highest grade received if the courses are equivalent.
High Unit Majors with Authorized Exceptions to Admission & GE Breadth Requirements-Transfer Students (Page 11):
Not applicable for Cal Maritime.
Orientation(Pages 3):
- Transfer students are required to attend orientation.
- The orientation fee of $350.00 is refundable IF students does not check-in.
- Orientation fee is subject to change without notice.

Registration Priorities for Upper Division Transfers
(Page 12):
- Registration order occurs after continuing students.
- Registration grouping occurs with all new students.
Statement of Intent to Register (SIR) and Enrollment Deposit(Page 2):
- The SIR and the required enrollment deposit of $500 is due May 1.
- Enrollment deposit is nonrefundable (unless, and only if medically disqualified with on-time documents)
Transfer Certification & Double-Counting of Courses for Major Requirements(Page 8):
- Required courses in some degree programs may also fulfill certain GE categories.
- Cal Maritime will allow fully or partially certified transfer applicants to double count courses towards (1) the American Institutions Requirement, and (2) GE Certification (either GE Breadth or IGETC).
- Cal Maritime will accept a DD-214 for elective units for all students and to clear Area E for GE-certified transfer students.
Transfer Credit Summary (Page 13):
3-4 weeks prior to the May 1 deposit deadline.
Transfer Students With Learning Disabilities-Completion of Mathematics/Quantitative Reasoning Requirements for Admission & GE Breadth
(Page 14): Evaluated on a case-by-case basis with review/recommendation from the Director of the Disability Resources Center.  Students wishing an exception based on a learning disability need to submit a written request and documentation verifying the disability to be considered for an exception.
